today i have learnt...

today, our first day in berlin, germany and i have learnt many many things...in no particular order...

berlin is a MASSIVE city with so much history its impossible to take it all in

Its always good playing pool with amy after champayne and vodka..she likes to hit my balls in

4 flights of stairs will give me a good looking bum

riding a push bike all day will give you an extremely sore bum

when i say i need to wee...i need to wee right now..and i hate paying for toilets

berlin is a very large city..brenton..our hostel is 10mins from check point charlie..and we thought it didnt look that far on the map so we walked there from hauptbahnhof..with packs..in the hottest part of the day...eeeeeww

berlin is a very long way from krakow

fried apple tastes good with icecream and cinnamon

germans like cream in their coffee

the holocaust memorial and centre in berlin are heart-breaking

aldi champayne really isnt that bad for 2 euro per bottle

the aldi vodka isnt bad either for 9 euro per bottle

The grassy area in front of the beautiful reichstag (parliament) is perfect for an afternoon nap

theres a special part of the path for pushbikes..i nearly lost my nose..

berlin hauptbahnhof (station) is almost like an airport its that big

there were hundreds of escapees through cars, tunnels, planes and speaker boxes across the berlin wall when east berlin (USA) and west (soviets) were separated.

checkpoint charlie has an awesome museum but the actual sight is nothing more then a tourist stop now

the bunkers of the gestapo (german police force during the nazi regime) contain the most chilling pictures i have ever seen.

still have another 2 nights in berlin, and are planning a big day tomorrow and dan and i are celebrating our fifth year anniversary by blowing our budget and going out for dinner.

love to all

Hi Kids,
Well Jess I certainly hope Daniel is walking those stairs with you. Congats on your 5th anniversary. Hope you have a great night. I see Amy has gone back to her "bad" habits??????? Love you Amy. I'm thinking this trip would be boring without you. Are you getting by with your little German phrase book? German Oma is sooooo excited to be seeing you all soon. Oh how I wish I could be there too. I have a vague memory of being at that train stop at the Berlin wall (when it was still up) with my mum and dad - I was 4 - with a machine gun being waved in our faces and all I wanted to do was go to the toilet. They wouldn't let my mum take me. Can't remember what I did with my loaded bladder, that memory escapes me. It's good that it's not like that now.
Love you all. Tina xxxx
