dear all,
the days have all blended into one lately and suddenly the blog is out of date!
let me begin, after leaving santorini we spent 9 hours hopping across islands sitting in the aircraft seats. several highlights of the trip included..reading several hundred pages of my book (bill bryson "down under" very entertaining), meeting the americans again from the dancing on the bar night and finding out they ended up worse then us, their front desk nearly called them an ambulance!never try to outdrink aussies!, and the final highlight were the two dolphins i spotted jumping in the ferries wake.
we arrived back at the port of athens at 1am to find all 24hr buses were on strike, so we had to fork out for a taxi.pretty sure we got ripped off but there was no other way and we were wrecked. crashed back at hostel in athens, woke everyone in the dorm and fell asleep.
The next day,we booked a ferry from patras, greece to bari, italy. After a stiff neck and a numb bum in just 9 hours of ferry we decided that for 16hrs we woukld splash a little, and for our own sanity, and get a cabin. Ended up being a very nice cabin with a shower and toilet. Caught the bus for 4 hours to the western port of greece, called patras and boarded a MASSIVE ferry to italy. slept all the way...
we arrived in bari, italy at 9am. The first train to naples wasnt until 1pm, so we looked around the city, enjoyed italian coffee and boarded our 4 hour train to naples. Met the aussie couple again that we had met at paros, chance meeting but they are really nice and had travelled alot and helped us get our eurail passes sorted.
Finally arrived in naples at around 5pm ish. We decided to go to naples because we wanted to see pompeii but other then that naples itself is pretty rough and dirty. Teh new italian president has said that his main aim when he got relelected is to clean up naples. Its that bad. But out of naples was beautiful and the food amazing..
but ill save that for the next entry!
