The weather and the welcome in Tabubil has been very warm indeed. It is weird to see blue skies and having to use an umbrella for shade and not to shelter from the consistant rain.

Well despite the unusually wet weather in Cairns I have arrived in Tabubil PNG for my second term of training at the OkTedi mine. I left Melbourne at 10am on Sunday the 29th for a quick trip to cairns by 1.30pm - Wrong!!

Just a few lines tonight about some of the idiocyncrosies of life here in Tabubil PNG. As the town is within the mine lease area it is wholly owned and funded by the Oktedi Mining Co Ltd. So interestingly nobody pays for electricity, water, carbage collection ... Read more >

On Saturday morning I spent a few hours up at the mill which was a fantastic experience. Unfortunately the weather made it impossible to see the actual mine site - rain and fog limited vision to about 10 metres. Never mind another time!
