    The glacier provided some stunning sights along the way. On the way back down to the base, the group walks past a deep pool of aqua coloured water. Such pools are created by large rocks that cascade down from mountain slops and rest on the glacier. Rocks absorb the heat from the sun and melt the glacier ice to create the void which fills with fresh water. by: jayant Views[187] Man and his tools. Steel toe boots, crampons and a pick axe are mandatory tools to trek on ice. by: jayant Views[418] The group leader performs a balancing act and braves the steep slopes of the glacier to create footholds for the group to explore untouched parts of the glacier. by: jayant Views[203] The lead guide of the group is incharge of the safety of the group. One by one each of the group members make their way up the glacier slopes guided by the path created by the leader. by: jayant Views[164] Fox Glacier is a 13 kms long glacier on the west cost of New Zealand's South Island. All groups visiting this glacier need to be briefed with health and safety instructions. This group prepares for their adventure on ice with a briefing from their leader.
