(Still in China)Sunday 29th July:
We both got up early still feeling the effects of the flu and caught a taxi to Beijing airport. We then checked in early and got the seats in the emergency exit so we had heaps of leg room. We first caught a flight to Hong Kong then caught our connecting flight to London, Heathrow. Our flight to London was also in the same seats.
The fligh was soooooo long and we got hardly any sleep.
When we arrived we caught the express train into London and found our way to our hotel. Everyone spoke english so it was a breath of fresh air asking people for directions.
Monday 30th July:We got up early, excited to see the new surroundings.
We used the great underground rail system and bought a three day pass to go sightseeing.
We caught the train to see Big Ben. We were both so tired and astonished that we were finally in UK, the time has just gone so quickly.
Near Big Ben there is a Star Wars exabition and you all know who loves Star Wars. However we didn't go in because we thought we would do it later in our visit. Plus I wasn't too keen on it.
Tuesday 31st July:We had to check out from our expensive hotel and move into something we could afford...hostel. We walked around trying to find one and no one had accomodation. We went to one near Hyde Park where we checked in and made ourselves regret spending 28 ponds on a doddgy dorm room. Wasn't nice coming from Asia where you get really nice rooms for only 20 aussie dollars.
We then headed to Hyde Park with our 2.80Pound bead roll with two slices of cheese and two slices of tomato. Now we were really feeling the money slip away quickly.
We then caught the train to Piccadilly Circus, from there we walked to Trafalgar Square. We didn't realise the day before (when we were at Big Ben) that all the monuments with great sugnificance were all around the same area. We walked past Downing Street and saw where the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown lives.
After that we walked past Parliment Square, the buildings around this area are just breathtaking.
Jamie wasn't feeling well so we walked to Victoria Tower Gardens were we sat in the shade while all the Londoners were sitting in the sun. There were soo many of the sunbaking. We aren't looking forward to winter!
We then Made our way to London Tower Bridge were we walked across it and seen how huge it really is, doesn't look as big in the photos.
Wednesday 1st AugustWe made our way on the train to the Horse Guards building where we saw the changing of the guard, which was quite and experience. The guards from Buckingham Palace come down to the Horse Guards buliding and change guards. The new guards then make their way up to Buckingham Palace up the street, with police surrounding them to make sure there is no interuptions.
We then made our way down to Buckingham Palace to see the Queen. She wasn't there so we couldn't have a cuppa with her.
There were SOOOOOO many people, guards, police on horses and police on foot around the palace gates. We couldn't see anything! We were really dissapointed and left after about 1/2 hour.
We then booked our ticket to Manchester.
