Started the day like so many others, with a free ride to Home Depot, where we relieved them of some plants, a rake and sundry other necessaries. From there it was home via Target, where I managed to capture a picture of the combined people elevators/trolley rides. Marg had to call into Lens Crafters in the same shopping complex, to get some maintenance work done on her spectacles - which they did gratis. This entailed a delay while we waited for the shop to open at 10.00am - but they do stay open till late.
Once home, we finished off the levelling of the clay out the back and laid some of the path edgers - the ones we relocated from the front. We'll be able to get more of these from Home Depot tomorrow to complete the job, but for now, that area is looking quite acceptable.
Managed to meet the other next door neighbour today - his name is Hector and 30 years ago he was from Colombia. He was attempting to repair his side gate, but it is probably too far gone to do anything other than nail it in place, which I think is what he did in the end. He was however, showing me a problem he has which will probably involve Leanne and Brian, if it can be fixed. The bitumen drive/parking area at the front of both houses has been built up to the extent that his side path (and to a lesser degree, Brian and Leanne's) floods with about 5 inches of water - most of which somehow goes under his house and is in turn pumped out by a sump pump. Oviously though, that's not good and needs to be rectified. His proposal is that both neighbours fund a concrete pour, to raise the level of the side paths, so that water will flow out onto the street, rather than under the houses. I know it's a problem - I've seen the result on Leanne's side which had about 2" of water a couple of days ago. The effect on his side is worse. We'll see what can be done.
When Leanne got home from work we went to one of the Lowe's (a competitor to Home Depot) stores. This turned out to be Woodbridge about 11 miles away - the GPS got quite confused and took us to a store well out of our way. Nonetheless, we found what we wanted, ie more supplies for the continuing developments.
