Once again, not feeling the best but after a trip to Home Depot, Leanne and I made a start on the fixing the side gate. We cut a cross brace and screwed it on after making sure the gate was square. We also needed to secure the hinge post and I picked up a long drill bit from Home Depot, to drill through the various thicknesses of post. We had some 10" coach (carriage) bolts to bolt all the posts together and provide a secure mount for this fairly heavy gate. In the event, I couldn't get enough power out of Leanne's 9 volt drill to force a hole through the lower part of the hinge post and had to start an alternate hole - I think I was hitting some steel, maybe a nail/screw. Anyway, the second attempt prevailed and both coach bolts were secured.
Marg started to dig out the weeds from the bitumen in front of the house and clear a patch of garden, in which we will no doubt plant something colourful. Not my part of the ship, but I'm sure it'll be just perfect.
That's all the hard work we did, but it is quite humid and the soil is not nice to work in - very much a clay soil and so different to that at home. Say what you will about Perth sand, but it's a lot easier to work with than clay.
Brian, Leanne and Marg went off just before tea, to do a big grocery shop while I stayed home, not wanting to move too far. Whatever I've picked up is quite debilitating.
