Le Tour de les Dales

Le tour?

Le tour?

Anybody north of Sheffield is well aware that Le Tour (French bike race in July) is kicking off in Yorkshire this year. From Richmond I headed down Wensley dale - stupid me thought it was Heartbeat country, but thats the Moors- meeting cyclists by the dozens all getting their practice in on another dry day- is this a record? and as for the hills - should send them up by the bridge of Brown instead to give their legs a work out... I dont think I came across a single 20% either up or down, certainly nothing i had the old girl stressing out in second in. Being a holy day how better than a visit to Fountains Abbey- a world heritage ruin of a Cistercian Abbey with a history back to year dot all because of the local springs.  Lovely grounds and water gardens , But the tour of the abbey involved a   lecture on the history of England  rather than a tour-so after 30 mins I explored the piles of stones by myself. The water gardens are magnificnt simply because they were ignored for years. Waiting times for services at the lakeside  tried my patience so a wander arond Rion ended the day.
