We're at the edge of the Andes now, in a city called Mendoza, which is a big producer of great wines, particularly Malbecs. We rented bikes yesterday in a nearby town called Maipu and rode around to several wineries for "tastings" (actually just massive glasses of vino). It was so nice to get out into the country air and ride along tree-lined roads, surrounded by vines and the snow-capped Andes along side us (although a bit obscured by fog). When we saw the menu at one of the wineries, I couldn’t pass up the “Pollo al Disco”, which is chicken stewed in beer – a bit out of place in a winery but it was magnifico!
We've got some good tickets to a Primera League soccer game today (Godoy Cruz v Lanus), so can't wait to see some silky Argentinian skills and some slightly loco fans.
The pic is from a demonstration that we stumbled across in Buenos Aires. At the time we thought it was a coincidence, but we’ve since learnt that almost every day in this country there is somebody marching about something. And they’re pretty good at it too – there’s flags, drums, firecrackers, and they’ve had some really successful protests that have removed a dodgy president from office, removed a good one from jail etc. The next pic will have us in it, I promise..
(Internet access in Argentina is great, but I’m sure these updates will dry up in a few weeks when we hit Bolivia)
