Gede came through for us again: On the
road between Kuta and Ubud there are a string of villages that
specialize in certain crafts – textiles/batik, stone carving,
silver/gold, and wood carving. We got a nice little crafts tour –
Gede knew the good spots to drop us off complete with demonstrations.
Upon arriving to Ubud, thanks to the Lonely Planet, we had about a
dozen options of places to check out to stay at. We saw several,
discovered prices had increased quite a bit since LP publication, and
then he said “I know a place”. It was perfect – in a secluded
gully with bungalows perched next to a bridge with terraced gardens
down to a river. Just peachy. So even though it was a whole
$16/night, Misi & i stayed there for 2 days. “Nick's Pension”
it was called. Unfortunate name for a beautiful little place.
