Just a quick note to let all of you know (especially those who saw my pre-trip jitters first hand) that we've arrived safe and sound.
After an unexpected touchdown in Djabouti -- we got to Adis Ababa in time to make our connection to Nairobi were we arrived yesterday around noon.
We spent the rest of the day roaming the city - which was not nearly as crazy as I thought it would be. It was actually really nice, if not a little busy. The most dangerous encounter we've had so far was when we forget that they drive on the left side before we cross the street.
Today, after a quick excursion to fill up with kerosene for Chaim's stove we grabed a shared taxi and headed north west along the great rift valley for Nakuru where i'm writing from now. the ride was nice for the first two hours until we came to the end of the newly constructed highway and joined the old road for the final (less than smooth) hour. But, we did alright -- nobody barfed -- and we got here and settled with time to ride up to see the Menengai Crater which was breathtaking. chaim, after convincing one of the craftsman there that he couldn't give him his hiking boots, bartered his green basetball hat for a little souvenier. It was all really amusing if you can imagine.
i'll upload pics of the whole interaction next time i'm at a computer and have time to upload.
so that's the latest -- we've covered a lot of road already, even seen a zebra or 5 or 6 -- and all in under 20/day.
much love from kenya,
Hillary
