The Ski Inn is wallpapered with sun-bleached paraphernalia from local events and beloved visitors. One regular named Barbara lit up with pride when she described a community effort to raise money for seeing-eye dogs. Another man named Randy did his best to trick me into ringing this bell. by: grace_loves_the_light Views[500]

This is Wendel, one of the owners of the Ski Inn at the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea is a crusted-over abandoned ghost of the glorious resort town it once was, but as soon as you step foot into this hole-in-the-wall bar you feel immediately warm and welcome. Locals convene here every day to check in with each other, trading gossip over beers and bragging about their double-wide mobile homes. by: grace_loves_the_light Views[746]

It's a tradition for visitors to write their name on a dollar bill and leave their mark on the Ski Inn. Though I happily participated in said tradition, I'm sure the unadulterated warmheartedness of the Salton Sea residents was what left an indelible mark on me that day. As I left the establishment, the regulars shouted after me,
