We had another Long Term-ers Meeting tonight. I love seeing David Campbell when he flies in - I truly do - but it also means we have a LTM on the event horizon. And that sucks.
Meetings that produce no actual actionable items are about as useless as....well, I can't think of a parallel...hoping your cat will make a great deterrent to being robbed? I dunno...something. These meetings just don't produce enough to justify sitting in a meeting for 90+ minutes.
If you don't like the nightly meetings then do what you can to encourage shortening them - clap less, shorten your workday reports or don't make one at all, don't leave your shit out in the Internet Cafe or the Lounge and then make a meeting note because you 'lost' it. Clean up after yourself - don't leave your tissue, your cup, your book, your work notes laying around in the public spaces after work hours. Flush your shit. No Meeting Note shall be announced that is not on the board as a Meeting Note.
This is NOT brain surgery, people. It's REALLY simple stuff.
Grr.
Boy it's been a busy few days. Framing is a phase of construction that I really pour my heart and soul into. I put out lots of energy in part because I love it so much and in part because I love teaching tit to the volunteers so much.
But tonight I got back and went into a meeting with Ryan regarding starting school furniture for school 8, then into a meeting with the other Site Supers and Chris to get our ducks on a row for the coming weeks that Matt (our boss) is on his extended MHB.
What came of the meeting is that I've got a lot on my plate in the coming week! I'be got framing completing at school 9, roofing and rendering going on at school 9 by middle of next week, furniture and louvres prefab and assembly for school 8 and school 9, a secure tool shed to design and build/oversee, and I need to figure out who and when and what site prep I want done for my first Site Supervisor official school (school 10).
Can anyone say "Delegation"? Time to start embracing that method of working PDQ, methinks!
I've gotta stop drinking two soda's before bedtime. That "if some is good then more MUST be better" part of my brain is a difficult beasst to tame, dammit!
