Day 63 v2: Cake anyone?

PERU | Wednesday, 30 March 2016 | Views [356]

5:30am wake up and you wouldn't believe - we got a cake for breakfast!!! Wtf? Hahaha we were all laughing at the bizarro world of camping we found ourselves in and everyone laughed even harder when we told them that last time we went camping to Glenworth Valley we ate a store bought garden salad out of the plastic bag and cooked 1 sausage each over a fire with a cake cooling rack. Today we were finally introduced to the porters...as it was the last day with them and it happened to be the day we paid them their tips...our minds suddenly shot back to the breakfast cake, hmm real subtle guys. Walked 16km today, with 1280m of pure down hill. So many orchids today mum and dad, took some pix for you. Picture this...climbing up a wall of steps (Spider-Man style) in the rain. As we reached the top - The Sun Gate, the rain stopped, a rainbow flashed over the valley, the sun came out and illuminated Machu Picchu down in the valley below us. It was one of those magical moments in life. What made it even better was that it was the end of the day and I guess all the tourists had cleared out because of the down pour and we literally had the place to ourselves for 30mins. We had to take the bus down to the town and come back tomorrow for the actual tour. And just like the thrifty travellers we are we opted to sleep on the restaurant floor for free. Which had no windows at the verandah end so we were often woken up with jack hammers, a guy using packing tape and the perutrail train right outside at 4am hahahaa
