Melbourne was nice and it soon hotted up to a reasonable temperature. I didn't take many photos because, well, there's not much to take pictures of. It's not that it isn't an attractive city - there are some lovely buildings and wide tree lined streets that reminded me of NYC, but there's no one particular postcard image of the city.
The sun didn't always shine, but there was plenty of other stuff to make up for it. I enjoyed myself wandering around the shops and markets and took myself off to see the stage show of Priscilla. It was a little indulgence but well worth the treat.
The silly season is in full swing now. Kids are off school and everywhere is Christmas crazy. It just doesn't feel right when it's warm and light to be celebrating. In Broome I went to the outdoor cinema and watched a snow-filled Christmas movie in tropical temperatures with geckos crawling across the screen. The enormous Christmas tree and carol singers in Melbourne were equally weird. It's all just as well because it would be much harder for me being away from home if it did feel like Christmas.
We left Melbourne and travelled all day to get to our next destination. Four airports and three flights in one day and it took nearly eighteen hours. Thankfully the Bonds shop at Sydney airport gave me a wee mid afternoon boost. Then on to Brisbane for a few hours and finally we arrived in Auckland in the wee small hours of Tuesday morning.
