My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Afghanistan | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos
Coming from multiple cultures I've always been thirsty to travel, see new places and people and experience new cultures. When I moved to Afghanistan at the age of 15 my camera became my best friend, following me to school, the bazaar, everywhere, daily. Before I knew it this mere interest in photography grew into a passion. Afghanistan is the first place I discovered a purpose for why I was there: to develop relationships with the people and to capture and display the true side of this land, as opposed to the angry hell-like one shown by the media, which is also the purpose I hope to fulfill wherever in the world I am. I never learned so much about life than through photography. I like to think it's because behind a lens I can focus on one single subject and notice and appreciate the little things in life, such as the colorful skirt of a brave Afghan girl dancing in public even if it's socially unacceptable. When I photograph, I find my loud, energetic self focused and immersed for a change. I may be very young but I can undoubtedly say that I have a passion for photography. I am a photographer who knows she has much to learn and is eager to improve and further stretch her passion.
