The Sher Derwaza (Lion’s Gate) wall which used to surround the city of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital and largest city, still stands winding across the city’s mountains. Sher Darwaza is believed to have been built in the 5th century. Kabul’s high elevation of 1,791 meters causes fog to sit over the city in the mornings and evenings.
