My Scholarship entry - A backyard paradise

Australia | Tuesday, January 8, 2013 | 5 photos

Hi, I'm Drew, currently undertaking university eduction in a double degree of Multimedia and Information Technology.

My father got me interested in photography; playing with his first 450D I caught the bug! I followed suit several years ago and purchased my first DSLR - a second hand Canon 450D.

Since then I have been inseparable from my camera, always known as "that guy who takes all the photos". It goes beyond a hobby or passion, or any other excessively used hyperbole, and despite the cliche of the sentiment, photography truly has become a way of life.

To provide perspective, after completing my third year of studies in October 2012, instead of going out with friends to celebrate that night, I was in bed at 8:30pm to get up at 3:30am in pursuit of a sunrise photo shoot.

This brief story of my life now brings us to another story; my submission. A local of the Gold Coast, beautiful Fingal head is just a stone's throw away. Not a lengthy travel, but one to a secluded part of the coast that few know of. My story starts at 4:30am to setup for first light. The aim of the day; capture an average day in this pristine part of the world, to give an insight into an endangered bird species, the landscape, and look at a day in the life of a local. The following is the story of the day and the people I met.
