    First light breaks over Cook Island. Shot from Fingal beach, New South Wales, Australia. this marks the beginning of my story; a snapshot into the life of the local people and the place they call home. Fingal Head is just south of the Queensland border. It has a rich Aboriginal heritage and is a part of the Tweed Shire council. Home to carefree people, beautiful scenery, a surfing lifestyle and some remarkable wildlife, Fingal Head is a place with abundant natural beauty. Views[511] The illusive Little Tern; an endangered and now protected species. As these birds are strongly migratory I was lucky to catch some on their travels. Meeting Matthew and Jessica that morning, I learned that the numbers of Terns have been diminishing for years until the Tweed Shire Council made a conscience effort to alert people to the species. Now signage is placed at the entrance to the beach outlining the plight of the Little Tern and their story. Views[506] A hot summer sun rises over Fingal headland to bathe the coast in warmth. Better light later in the morning wakes up some of the local wildlife - what I believe to be a dark grey Heron (or similar). The story of this bird is solely focused on catching a mid-morning snack. Views[364] A local couple, Matthew and Jessica enjoying an afternoon walk with their dog, Sammy, along the beach. As Sammy ambitiously chased after a bird, they told me it was an endangered species, the Little Tern. My goal became capturing an image of that elusive Little Tern, and to publicise the story of this protected bird. Views[495]
