Heaps of straws dot the village of Tabo announcing the advent of the village treshing festival, Namkan. Amidst apple trees and sparse rain in the desert mountain region of Spiti Valley, mud houses coexist with few cemented structures. After harvesting, between winnowing and storing the grains for winters, Namkan forms an important transitional point in the village’s lives.
