Canada: Lake Huron Storm
Went storm chasing: found one! While out on one of my many adventures, a sunny walk on the beach turned more dramatic as the storm moved in. The alarming fall in the lake’s water level made me realize that I was seeing climate change in action.
Lake Huron Storm
Canada | Tuesday, July 2, 2013 | 5 photos
These photos were taken in mid-September, 2012. Visiting places around the shore of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron that I knew in my childhood, I noticed that water levels had fallen drastically. Where I fished from a boat as a teenager, I now sat on a rock several metres from the shoreline to eat my lunch. The dock for the Cheecheemaun, the crucial ferry linking Manitoulin Island and the mainland, has had to be lowered because the boat can no longer reach it safely. Where has the water gone? Has it evaporated? Does it sit bottled in grocery stores? Is it already too late to learn the lesson the lake is trying to teach us?
