5. A study by the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation, examining the possible effects of climate change, indicated that in the future, the region can expect more intense storms, both winter and summer, including frequent, extreme precipitation. .

4. The storm closes in. Until the 1920s, Lake Huron's piscine food chain was ruled by the lake trout, which fed on the plankton-eating cisco. When the lake was invaded by smelt, alewives, and sea lampreys, the trout were brought to the edge of extinction. In the 1980s, Chinook salmon were imported from the West Coast but now the alewives they eat have dwindled. In an illustration of the cyclical nature of the world, the lake trout population is increasing again.
