1. Chantry Island, Southampton, Lake Huron. This 81-hectare island was made a bird sanctuary in 1957 and is home to gulls and great blue herons as well as migratory birds. The lighthouse is one of six nearly identical Imperial lighthouses constructed between 1855 and 1859. The newly exposed shoreline and receding water levels are shocking but the lighthouse still promises safety in a storm.
