Basque Country - Donastia Sans Sebastian

SPAIN | Thursday, 22 September 2016 | Views [507]

On the steep journey downhill out of the hills the breaks on the beast were stinking, we have had this a few times on the bad downhills but this time the break light came on. After much contemplation and discussion with our mechanic in the UK we decided not to continue our hilly journey and therefore headed for the flatter coast close to where we sail home. So we are pitched up for 3 nights in Donastia San Sebastian a beautiful sea side town. Explored the area on foot and bike. It was the international film festival over the weekend so loads of red carpets and paparazzi everywhere. Didn't really pay that much attention until I found out Ewan MacGregor had been right outside the convention centre where I had been stood a few hours earlier!!

The town sits on three crescent beaches and is surrounded by green hills, very picturesque.  It is most famous for its food and in particular pinxos. These are a bit like tapas but the ingredients are placed on slices of baguette. You can get every topping imaginable and they are all displayed on the bar in huge platefuls. Bit like a luxury buffet. The idea is to walk around the bars and pick up a drink and pinxos as you go. Each bar specialises in certain toppings. It is a spectacle to see and very pleasing on the tummy to eat. Had a great time here and I would probably say that this my favourite city in the whole of Spain.
