Castille - Astgorga & Burgos

SPAIN | Tuesday, 20 September 2016 | Views [430]

Castille, Astorga

Left the Ancares region and headed east into the heart of Castille for a couple of tourist days. Visited a lovely restored village and then continued to Astorga. A historic town with the cathedral, squares and Roman walls. Had a lovely walk around, as usual arrived at siesta time when everything was shut and left when everything was opening!! Don't think I could ever get used to the Spanish timings!!

Castille, Burgos

Travelled east again for a couple of hours to the city of Burgos famous for its gothic cathedral and being on the St James pilgrimage route. Very genteel city with picturesque river and parklands. Went in the cathedral which has the most impressive architecture, the stone and wood carvings are fantastic – you'd need a year in the place to really appreciate the intricacy. Lots of mythical creatures and non-religious carvings. Walked up to the castle and explored the rest of the city. Great day.
