On the way to the next stop we called into the Bundaberg rum distillery for a tour. The largest rum distillery in Oz surrounded by miles and miles of sugar cane fields. Great tour and even greater tasting the rum in the bar at the end of the tour! Next stop was a little town called '1770' because it was the first place in Queensland that Cook stepped foot on in 1770. Not much has happened there since! Still really undeveloped which means a beautiful estuary and coast line. Campsite right on the creek beach close to the mouth of the ocean. Went kayaking up the creek, with a paddle! (the hire ladies joke - not mine!) Waved goodbye to the last surf beach in Queensland - no more waves from this point north. The main reason for this stop was a boat trip to our first Great Barrier Reef coral cay island - Lady Musgrove Island. This is one of the most southery reefs on the Great Barrier Reef. Really great trip except the 2 hour crossing was mega rough and I was sick as a dog for most of the journey (along with many others on the boat). Just typing this make me feel queasy! Never been seasick before, but it was really rough. The reef when we arrived was worth it though. Saw loads of really colourful fish, corals and turtles whilst snorkelling. We also got chance to visit the island for a nature walk. The journey back wasn't as rough thank goodness. Chilled on the beach for sunset when we got back to the campsite. We are heading inland again today to a national park so it might be a while until the next update. Hope all is well in the UK.
