Wat Maha That or the Monastery of the Great Relic and Buddha head in the tree roots. Built in the 14th century the monastery was invaded in 1767 and many of the Buddha heads were vandalized. More recently thieves decapitated all of the remaining heads and sold them on the black market. It was said this head was more than likely hid by a thief and forgotten
