Independent Palace in Siagon. In February 1962 two pilots from Ngo Dinh Diem Republic of Vietnam Air Force sent on a raid against the Viet Cong rebelled and  flew their aircraft over the palace and bombed it. The assassination attempt of the president failed and he ordered the building demolished and reconstructed. He did not get to see the completed hall as he and his brother were assassinated in 1963.
