Rothenburg devised a way to generate funds for maintenance and restoration of the fortress wall. They offer plaques with your name embedded on the wall starting a 1200 euro for a meter.

Rothenburg and an evening tour with the Night Watchman who had a very comical way of presenting the cities history. The tour lasts one hour and he charges 8 euro per person. We estimated there to be about 200 people on the tour. Not a bad wage for an hours work.

Rothenburg is Germany's best preserved walled town thanks to a picture of the city that hung in the house of a boy named John McCloy. His Mom visited Rothenburg in the early 1900s and told him about its beauty and historical significance. As fate would have it years later US General John McCloy called off an air raid over Rothenburg during WWII and elected to negotiate the surrender of the town saving it from destruction all thanks to his Mom.
