Tiefenhohle Laichingen is one of the deepest caves in Germany. It was discovered in 1892 after a pile of sand collected on the surface used for cleaning mysteriously disappeared. Thinking someone stole the sand the sand miner sat up all night waiting to catch the thief but later realized the sand was falling into a crack in the ground.
