    Wat Phra Si Sanpeth or Temple of the Holy was the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya until the city was completely destroyed in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and served as a model for Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. Built in the 14th century the monastery was invaded in 1767 and many of the Buddha heads were vandalized.     These giant statues guard the Marco Polo gate near Wat Pho's entrance and represent the first western visitors to visit the east on trading missions.     Wat Saket or Temple of the Golden Mount was just one of the many temples on the Grand Palace grounds. Views[257] Temple of Emerald Buddha decor was way over the top. Legend says Emerald Buddha was created in 43 BC and saved Sri Lanka from a civil war. Being a very holy place no pictures of the Buddha were allowed.     Entering the On the boat we made a flower Kratong and lit it at night for a spectacular light show at night. Once the cave was dark a natural bioluminescent plankton light show took place.
