Hi all, I hope you had a lazy boxing day.....
After a busy Christmas day on the beach, we finally called it a night after stuffing ourselves with some great food. The owner of the place that we are staying at (called "Onh") made us Christmas dinner, Thai style. Along with the turkey and all that jazz, we had barracuda, some mad festive vegetable curry and god knows what else. It's the 27th now and we are still eating the stuff, although there's only so much curry I can have. The main seating area of the huts is right on the beach, and this made for an excellent time. The only minor problem though is that I had to take it very easy on the alcohol (no bad thing really) because I'm dosing myself up on amoxycillin at the moment because of a sore throat that I have had for practically the entire trip.
And to boxing day. We decided to do something a bit different and hire sailing boats to sail to the next island over. There were six of us, with one triack (a kiack for 3 people) and one lazer sailing boat. As I was the only person with some minor sailing experience, I was shunted into the Lazer and told to get it to the island by the others. To hire a boat with a Thai bloke sailing was a lot more money than without, so of course, me at the helm was a better option.
The conditions were great, and there was not too much wind, so we got to the island with no major incidents. We had a great time sailing around, doing some snorkeling, swimming and sun bathing on the island. There was a minor incident however when Jan (a Norweigan lad) decided he wanted to stop the boat in order to talk with a Thai fisherman. He looked into the hold of the fisherman's boat, and must of liked what he saw because he grabbed a fair sized squid, which proceeded to bite the bejesus out of him. Aparently you see, squids have a beak, precicely for the purpose of fending off slightly forward drunk Norweigans.
After god knows how many hours playing in the gulf of Thailand, we headed back to our beach for a bit of relaxation. As evening approached the weather turned bad, so we headed to Barry and Elle's (much nicer) hut, which is on stilts and has a very nice porch for a chill out and a music session.
And so to today, and I suppose it will be more of the same. The weather is a bit dodgy today, so I think, sad as it sounds, it might be a movie or two. I am thinking about heading over to Ko Tao in the next few days to do some diving, as it is the place to be for such tings. I only have eleven days left on this epic trip before I head to Japan, and the only other real thing I want to do is visit the River Kwai. But for now, enjoy your boxing day..................
