Comfortably Uncomfortable

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

In Kerala, I had a bit of a disagreement with someone I was traveling with. He thought it would be fun to tell a mutual friend that I was making stereotypical jokes about Central Americans, and I was upset because I personally don't joke about racial stereotypes. While I was framing this shot, it reminded me of a park near home, so I decided to explain why, from my background, with many friends who are Mexican-American, I couldn't tolerate what he thought was funny.
