Today I impressed my fellow staff with a few phrases of Nepali like "how are you". Unfortunately I hadn't read as far as what the answers meant, so I had no idea if they were good or bad. I just nodded my head and said thats good to hear.
No matter how much I eat, I am always hungry in Nepal. Tonight I decided to see if I could actually fulfill this hunger. After an Everest longneck (you cant seem to buy small bottles) and a huge rice/noodle dish, i had some banana pancakes with a Lassi. Yet it felt as though i hadn't had eaten since brekky! I bought a packet of biscuits and gorged on those, but in the end i only felt a little sick and still hungry!
Defeated, I headed to drown my sorrows at the Tom & Jerry pub. Happy hour here means free popcorn instead of half-priced beer, so it wasnt really a happy hour at all. I had a few games of pool with a pom who had just finished uni and was teaching English whilst backpacking across Asia. The pool table was up to Nepali standard, with any tears in the felt being hand-stitched. Made for a very entertaining game as the ball would roll in all directions. Whilst talking about where to travel in Europe, I told him about Lisa and Aunty Lou not eating a pizza in Italy. He was shocked! He explained that there is a stereotypical thing you have to do in every country you travel to - Nepal for Everest, France for the Eiffel tower, Australia for a Kangaroo pouch ride and to eat a pizza in Italy.
