Cathedral and balloons, Durango Mexico

Cathedral and balloons, Durango Mexico

Our first week has taken us down the center of Mexico from Cuidad Juarez to Zacatecos with a side trip to Barranca del Cobre or Copper Canyon.  We are averaging just over 250 miles a day, not bad considering the 50 mph speed limit most of the way.  Our plan was to camp each night, so easy to do in Baja, but it is much more difficult to find camp grounds in the central part of the country.  Fortunately hotels are abundant and reasonably priced.

Everyone we have met has a ‘Buenos dias’ for us, especially in Hidalgo del Parral, and is friendly and helpful in spite of my atrocious Spanish.  We enjoyed the vibrant activities in the plazas and the grandeur of the cathedrals in Durango, very different than the mission churches of Baja.
