Perhaps I spoke too soon when I wrote in my last post that the level of danger and safety feels like any other country in this part of the world. Yesterday afternoon a bombing outside the Central Bus Station (which is near our hotel) killed a British woman and injured 45 others. I'm sad for the woman who lost her life and for all those who were injured, but I am grateful there weren't more casualties. I also realize that there are attacks going on between the Israelis and Palestinians in the Gaza strip right now. At the moment we are nowhere near there. There is heightened security throughout the country, but at this point, we are relatively unaffected by current events. Let's hope it stays that way.
For what it's worth, I don't think I would take back what I said regarding feeling safe—I still feel safe. I guess I look at it this way: violence happens all over the world every day, even back home. I would still rather experience the world for myself than see it through someone else's lens. Anyhow, these topics are receiving a lot of coverage in the news here, so I thought I better post a quickie to let everyone know that everything is just fine with us. More to come...
