Valencia and Barcelona 4 September

SPAIN | Friday, 4 September 2015 | Views [259]

Woke up to a rarity this morning, it was raining. Scuttled our plans of completing the city tour (there were 2 routes). We had 36 degrees in Madrid and all 30's everywhere else but was quite cool this morning.

Drove to Barcelona, a journey of around 350 ks but mostly 120kph. Got a bit of a shock at the first toll - €30.90! Unfortunately another 2 smaller tolls later we arrived in Barcelona. This has been the good bit up to here.

After refueling we were on our way to drop the car off we got a flat. A guy on a scooter rode past to tell us but we were quite close to Hertz. Col went and checked the office and Scott got out to take a look. Short story is was part of a scam - momentarily distracted and relieved of our wallets and phones. Also got Col's camera.

Spent a while with police and have the report. Ellen, Col's daughter, did an amazing job cancelling cards and all for us. We had no money and no cards and no phone so were pretty screwed. Police advised us it is a common scam, and sure enough it's listed in Trip Advisor. Col's pretty sure we were targeted and wouldn't have mattered what we did. Anyway, we were ok and still had our passports.

Finally met up with Greg and Jeannette who have helped us out with money for the short term. Intent on enjoying the rest of our holiday.
