Volunteering in the DR

Staging in Miami

USA | Tuesday, 19 August 2008 | Views [303] | Comments [1]

So I finally arrived in Miami, after a super long trip. And it has only begun. I am stuck in the hotel, since there is a hurricane watch. Never been through this, (I only know earthquakes) so hurricanes seem pretty scary to me. I can't get over how hot and humid it is even through the rain! I guess I am a total California girl - I see rain and I automatically zip up the layers and bring out the umbrella. Tomorrow I have orientation so I get to meet the other volunteers. I'll let you know about the other weirdos like me....

Hang in there and be safe. Coming from a tropical island where humidity is the all around weather with rainy season every now and then, I can honestly say I understand your concern. I've been through many typhoons (aka hurricanes) and I'm still here. Just stay indoors and hope that the water and power are not affected. Do you have a deck of cards? That usually helps time pass.

I hope you'll get to the Dominican Republic safely. I'm looking forward to when you say you've arrived at your final destination.
