In less than a week I will find myself in orientation and on my way to the Dominican Republic - SCARY!! I never thought time would go by so fast, but it is almost here. I still feel as if I am just going on vacation, and will be back at my desk processing PO's within two weeks.... I guess reality has yet to set in, and it probably won't until I arrive and I'm meeting my host family. I hope they are nice, and that they don't expect me to eat meat. But, I am prepared to eat it - if necessary. It just won't be very pretty.
I don't think I have realized how long 27 months will be. Most people give me this shocked look when I tell them how long I will be serving and where I am going...27 months? Really? and this is a volunteer position? Why would you want to do this? Aren't you scared?? You are going to be poor?? - these are all common reactions. All I can say is: I don't want to wake up one morning, 90 years old, and wishing I had done this....I could die tomorrow, or in 50 years, but at least I won't have this regret....
