5 Areas for a Great Road Trip in 2021

UNITED KINGDOM | Tuesday, 24 November 2020 | Views [118]

With the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, we are currently quite limited in travelling through the UK – local lockdowns and different tiers make a road trip quite difficult. However, this doesn't mean you can't plan your trip for 2021.

The recent news about the vaccine might mean you don't have to cancel your plans for next year again. If you plan to stay local and explore the UK by car, then here are five areas that a great for a road trip.

Cornwall

If you want to enjoy a relaxing holiday with plenty of sunshine, then Cornwall is probably the best area in the UK for that. The summer is usually very mild there with July being the hottest month of the year.

The best way to start your road trip through Cornwall is probably from Bath. From there, you can follow the Atlantic Highway along the North coast and drive further towards Land's End. You'll pass a lot of different dreamy towns, including St. Ives. The small seaside town is renowned for its art scene and beautiful beaches.

Norfolk's Coast

Do you live further up in Northern England and don't want to drive away too far from where you live? Then the Norfolk's Coast might be great for a road trip. With over 90 miles of coast, you will drive along a lot of unspoiled beaches that will certainly be less busy than the ones in the South.

Especially if you own a dog, then Norfolk is great for a holiday. Many beaches there are dog-friendly and great for your furry friend. For example, the beach of Wells-next-the-Sea features lots of cute colourful huts and is particularly huge when the tide is low.

Fife Coastal Route

Another beautiful coast that is fantastic for a road trip is the Fife Coastal Route. Up in Scotland, this route goes along the magnificent East Coast. The route starts in Kincardine and follows the A985 before you head off to smaller roads and drive along seaside towns.

One of your stops should definitely be the Fife Coastal Path. You don't have to walk along the whole path, but it's worth stopping and walking along the route a bit. A great stop is Anstruther - the town has beautiful houses and apparently the UK's best fish and chips.

Lake District

If you love going for a walk through nature and don't mind going uphill, then the Lake District is a good choice. With over 2000 km², it is England's largest national park.

There are lots of beautiful towns and sights you can drive to on your road trip. For example, the ruins of Lowther Castle and its gardens are perfect for a sunny day out.

North Coast 500

The very North of Scotland is great for a road trip as well. Its rather wild landscape with magical looking mountains and lochs will let you quickly forget the rather frequent rainfalls.

The name of the route might already suggest it – the whole road trip along the coast is about 500 miles long. Since there are only a few bed and breakfasts along the route, you might want to bring a tent with you. That way, you can be more flexible and don't have to sort out accommodation long in advance.

The areas mentioned above might have been an inspiration for your holiday plans in 2021. A driving holiday is easy to plan, and you can be very flexible – especially if you pack a tent. Make sure that you cover your car against accidents so that you don't have to worry about things that can go wrong.
