Surviving Between Mountains

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Chile | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

I feel the cold rock in my hands. My feet are over small edges the size of a little coin and I am 30 meters off the ground. My arms are tired from climbing. The beat of my heart gets to my ears and for moments is stronger than the sound of the wind that moves fast as if it was trying to escape from the canyon. I finally secure myself and look back: a big condor is floating with the wind over a moonscape. I take my camera and, with a smile, capture this moment.
I study journalism in Chile and I was born in Colombia. Since childhood I knew the importance of journalism and the impact images have when it comes to reflect different aspects of society. This is why I am interested in politics and economy; but I am most of all a true adventure lover. I am a rock climber since I was 13 years old. Nowadays, I write for a climbing magazine (Escalando.org).
I need both, writing and photography in order to express myself fully; they can be magically connected to affect the way we perceive things. I would like to learn from experienced photographers that know the technique, but also that have worked the field; I cannot imagine what a wonderful opportunity that would be.
