This morning
we headed out after another sumptuous breakfast at our accommodation – left our
bags at reception while we wandered the town. Randles (Nelson friend and soon
to be flatmate)had recommended we go to the 1030 service at Old Saint Pauls so
we made our way past the castle and down the Royal Mile then around the corner
until we found it in its secret wee nook.
We had the
‘full treatment’ with much incense burning, whole congregation (black lab
included) lap of the church to ‘warm up’, really interesting message, some
quality old school hymns and the eucharist. After that we chatted to a woman
originally from NZ who spotted Bray’s Māori-ness and guessed we were from
Aotearoa too.
The sun was
shining beautifully again so off we trotted at pace up the Craggs . Though keen
to climb up Arthur’s Seat time constraints kept us to the Craggs, only looking
at Arthur’s Seat. It was AWESOME! Great views through clear skies over the
city, hills and water, we loved it...and Roni only slipped over once.
After this
we made our way back up the Royal Mile past various street performers and more
monuments back to Haymarket. Gathering our bags we caught the Airport Flyer
from Haymarket Station and got to Edinburgh airport in time for a Cornish
pastie and game of Guitar Hero for Brayden – happy man!
Kaff and
Adam returned from Bristol without any drama and we headed back to the car. A
few issues with getting out of the carpark as the pre-paid parking then wanted
another 27 quid from us! Madness. We escaped (not unscathed) and Adam drove us
back to Aberdeen. Fish and chips were the ideal dinner after a late return to
town so us two set out to order our first Scottish fish & chips down the
road.
They were
chocka block! A line out the door and ‘cash only’ sign sent us to the co-op to
get cash before heading back into the (slightly thinned) melee to order our
kai. Somehow we refrained from adding mushy peas or a pickled egg to our
order... After a fairly long wait we returned home victorious bearing food
which was consumed with relish all round.
A wee bit of
relax time then an earlyish night after a busy weekend all round.
