An early
start in the sea fog at Brouwershaven this morning. Roni headed out to the
bakery bright and early only to discover she was TOO bright and early and had
to go back later to pick up our baguette to make lunch with. We had brekkie
before lugging our gear down the road to catch the bus. While waiting we had
chats with a local woman out walking her dog who couldn’t understand why anyone
would want to backpack around Europe at this time of year, it being grey and
generally quite chilly.
Caught our
bus successfully then made the train journey to Roosendaal...train delayed 20m
or so there, Antwerpen Centraal (brief stop where we consumed hot chips and
pre-prepared sandwiches) and finally into Brugge (Bruges). With the aid of a
helpful bus information lady we made it to the campsite and had the tent up and
everything sorted well before dark and the earliest on our whole trip! We
headed out to explore the area close to Camping Memling...not much around, a
few wee purchases at the supermarket after searching the hardware store for camping
gas then home to our campsite. There was a gazebo/camping table thingee close
to our tent site which we greatly appreciated
– meant we had somewhere to sit while eating, space to pack & unpack our
bags and a wee area out of the mist/drizzle when that occurred.
Dinner of
leftover macaroni cheese consumed in the gathering gloom (it is starting to get
dark around 4pm now!) before we retired to the relative warmth of the tent. Weary
from travelling we watched Cars 2 on
the laptop before falling asleep before 9pm (Bray at least)!
