We awoke
still miles from the floor – that air bed is crazy! Dino was VERY excited to
meet the giant air bed and bounced around on it until breakfast time. We had a
late-ish breakfast together before heading out into the sunshine – Dino on his
bike. Off to the bakery to buy bread for the weekend...then we got distracted
by the specials rack outside the opshop. Every item was 3 Euro! Found a funky Cars2 hoodie and gangsta pants for Dino
and a hoodie for Roni. She’s only brought one on the trip and it is definitely
getting chillier!
Detour via
the playground on our way home – Dino played, Bray and Jeanine read the
newspaper, Roni patted the ginger cat lounging in the sun before helping Dino
hurtle down a hill on his bike. We all played on the playground a bit before
heading home for tasty soup lunch.
Nap time for
Dino (and Jeanine) while us two laxed out and watched a bit of Thor. When the other two arose we had
afternoon coffee before heading to the Lidl in Zierikzee to stock up on all
that was required for our ‘Gourmet’ experience tonight.
Jeanine had
planned a Netherlands dining experience for us that was her favourite when
growing up. It’s kind of like a cross between Cambodian BBQ and Korean BBQ plus
a few Dutch touches around the edges. We took all the kai around to Ruben’s
place and started kitchen prep while Bray ‘fixed’ the home theatre system.
(This involved tu tu-ing with all the buttons, a bit of drooling and eventually
watching Ruben control everything through his phone and the tv).
Many items
chopped (meat, zuchinni, onion,
mushroom, capsicum, etc), sauces prepared (satay & special savoury banana
sauce from Jeanine’s Mum’s recipe – sounds weird but was uber tasty!), drinks
all round and table set – then into it!
Everyone got
in amongst it and there were many different methods employed to get that
perfect ‘taste sensation’. We also got to share the experience with Ruben’s
best mates Jan-Hendrik & Ronald. Dino went to bed after eating his fill and
the rest of us ate some more before clean up time. The boys got in amongst the
dishes before coffee and Vienetta provided by Roland for puddine. We tried
playing games but Ruben only had one in the house...for ages 4-7yr. We tried
making it more challenging but gave up after everyone had a turn and retired to
the couch to watch Limitless.
When that
finished us four (Dino, Bray, Jeanine & Roni) piled in the car to drive
back to Brouwershaven and hit the hay – well fed, great conversations had and
generally a great night.
