The BIG Trip

Punk rock for life!

GERMANY | Sunday, 9 October 2011 | Views [391]

Today dawned sunny with a nippy little breeze. We eventually rose and returned to the ‘communal flat’ for a tasty shared brekkie of buns with toppings – augmented with a delicious omelette type thing courtesy of Simon Friday. Time to clean up before setting out to explore the city with Simon (x2) and Maren. Our tour took us back to see more of the university, a square dedicated to Kant, the Schlossgarten and Volkspark, the White Tower (one of only two buildings which survived the extreme WW2 bombing) , a travelling market from the Netherlands, the Luis in the Luisenplatz main square, Starbucks (oh the shame – but we HAD to use a loo), the student building Simon & Simon used to live in, the Waldspirale – otherwise known as the Hundertwasser House, then home for a mini-rest before hitting the road via a donor shop for dinner...YUM!

There were six of us heading into Offenbach for The Subways gig – soon to be Bray’s first punk rock event ever! We walked to the Luisenplatz to catch a tram to the central station...to catch a train to Frankfurt...to catch a train to Offenbach before making our way through the relatively heavy rain to find Capitol, our venue for the night.

Through the door, coats dropped off, beverages purchased and we were ready to rock. The opening acts had just finished and The Subways took the stage.

GOOD TIMES. A relatively short set but we jumped around, skanked, shook our tail-feathers and generally rocked it out. Bray is now a punk rock convert!

After retrieving our coats we gave in and took a bus back to Offenbach train station as the rain was still bucketing down  – there we had a wee wait for our train but passed the time with snacks, stretching, chats and a beverage or two. You can drink alcohol in public almost everywhere here and it is SO weird – always feels ‘naughty’ to be doing so! (as you can tell from Bray’s face in the picture) The boys bonded through The Simpsons storytelling-reminiscing much of the way home...laughter bringing them to tears more than once...

Split taxi costs to get home (still raining) then we headed back to our place – Roni still too amped from the gig to sleep so we looked at pics and video from today for a bit before she faded into zzzz....
