The BIG Trip

Day with Dino

NETHERLANDS | Monday, 26 September 2011 | Views [565]

Dino had a day off school today (teacher stuff) so we got to play! Tasty Dutch bakery treats for breakfast with real coffee...delicious. Then we headed out to the storm surge barrier...a local attraction and a life saving one in case of storms and floods such as those lethal ones in the ‘50s. There is a museum, fancy park and things there...but paying 21Euro for a four year old was too much to stomach so we drove around it and had a good look that way.

To the beach next...spades, ball and scooping tools/buckets in hand. Much fun had by all and Jeanine and Roni still talking up a storm as Bray played with his newest fan Dino. The sun was shining, light breeze and not many people about. Fantastic. We made our way to a ‘beach stand’ for a beverage eventually and relaxed in the sun there until we noticed just how close the water had become to our gear down on the beach. A race to gather our bits & pieces, finished our drinks then headed back to the car.

Next stop was a windmill that still grinds its own flour and runs a traditional pancake kitchen out of the ground level too (we thought of you April!). They have a cool playground too so we all had a turn on the swings, roundabouts and seesaws before sharing a couple of their MASSIVE pancakes – they seriously were well over the edge of really big dinner plates. Delicious.

Home time then for Dino (and all of us) to have a rest before making dinner. Dino had an early night after the lateness of last night and a full day today. Adults stayed up again past 1.30am chatting up a storm and doing our best to catch up on all that we have missed out over the last ten years.
