Saturday morning is a 'slow start' for the Sussex whanau so after a song and dance performance by Molly & Pippa we headed out. Walked to the Jars of Clay cafe to meet Vichda... He is a Cambodian friend of Roni's Uncle John and we were keen to meet him but a bit apprehensive as to what to do/where to go and what would be 'acceptable' culturally!
He arrived and we had chats over a cool drink. Vichda is an awesome guy! Told us about himself, his whanau, work and life history then we went to see his house and meet his wife. They have been in their first house for 5 months and it is lovely. His wife is pregnant with their fourth child and we met her + their youngest daughter. After this he took us to Phnom Hill/Wat Phnom...pretty much the birthplace of Phnom Penh and complete with shrine to Lady Penh who founded the city.
Then we went for lunch - shared some TASTY Khmer kai and more chats. Vichda then took us past the Central Market (crazy French art deco building!) to Sorya transport where we booked our tickets to Sihanoukville before he returned us close to home.
Walked our way safely home for homemade pizza dinner with the Sussex whanau - we are SO spoilt! Then Phil & Becky had a 'hot date' and we stayed home with the kids :-) Stoked to have the chance to give something back as they have been looking after us hand and foot and Becky just keeps feeding us!!
They had a great night out seeing a movie and we laxed at home.
