Today Bray almost killed our minvan driver. Bray throws his massive pack to the driver (standing on top of the rain-wet van) and driver falls off!! Ouch!! He shook it off and climbed back up but we were UBER careful handing packs up and down after that...
On the road in a chock-full minivan with the stereo blasting a VERY eclectic mix of music...Disney Hercules theme song, Blue, Thai pop, Flo Rida, Cat Stevens and almost an entire album of Westlife. No kidding! We think maybe our driver borrowed his teenage daughter's mp3 player.
The road from Luang Prabang to Phonsavan is W.I.N.D.Y. If you know the Takaka Hill road....take that and add multiple landslides, not much tarseal,'sharp turn' signs every 5 metres and make it last for about seven hours. Bray's fragile travelling tum was NOT happy and even Roni was feeling a tad queasy on it after the first four hours of constant winding.
Amazing views of the mountains, little villages clinging to the edges, woven buildings, subsistence farming, loads of littlies playing in the mud and puppies/chicks/ducklings EVERYwhere.
We arrived safely in Phonsavan and made our way past the touts to 'Nice Guesthouse', which lives up to the name in some ways, and not so much in others :-P Threw our bags down and went exploring to find kai - had Indian that was tasty then retreated to our room with oreos and instant coffee. There were two days of travel pics to label and edit so Roni had work to do.
Next day's mission - explore Phonsavan and find a cheap way to explore the Plain of Jars.
