Day started with a treat...Full Breakfast @ our guest house.....Good start for all the walking we were going to do. Several things were to be covered today - Grand palace, Vimanmek palace (Dusit) and MBK. That was the plan....
We started walking from our guest house to the Grand Palace. Through many streets we weaved our way for and hour and a half only to be 10mins from our destination when a "helpful stranger" noticed us looking at our map (for the 10th time) - started in with, "Can I help?"....then informed us that the Grand Palace will be closed till 1pm due to the Royal Family visiting...then what places we should see in the mean time then said that we should take a Govt Tuk Tuk....he pulls 1 over to show us the Govt symbol... A lil' heat stroke and taken in by his advice we get in, knowing we've been warned about this (helpful person, leads to tuk tuk, leads to taylors, T.A.T's (tourist information), etc and maybe you'll get to your destination)....So let the tuk tuk ride begin.
It went the way of all tuk tuk rides...a couple of cool things - lucky Bhudda, standing Bhudda and Grand Palace...couple of tedious things - suit makers x2 and 2x TAT approved tourism branches.
All worked out in the end - we got a few quotes for potential bookings and he got his $5 petrol vouchers. We put up a fair fight about the TAT#2 then he didn't wait for us out of Grand Palace so didn't get full fare - though the water we got him + the petrol vouchers (at the rate that tailor #2 explained to us) pretty much equalled it!
Bray got his tuk tuk experience and all is well :-)
We loved the Grand Palace (yup - MANY pics!) and caught a local bus home - yay, success! Also mastered the art of Thai postage :-)
Quiet night in tonight with a yummy Thai meal from "our dinner lady" in her stall down a nearby alleyway.
