It took a lot longer than expected to rent the house. However, we knew it was not going to be easy because one of the requirements to rent the house was to take care of our two cats. We thought we would find someone because we have everything setup, such as grass mowed every two weeks, all bills including TV, internet, power, gas, water and trash are all covered, and a years supply of cat litter and food supply. So, we started by sharing information about renting the house to friends and neighbors. Additionally, we made a flyer and posted it up at the UT Law School.
Our first contact was two UT students that were interested, but they still wanted to get a third person. After several weeks, we still had very few inquires about renting the house. Though we were still close to two months before we left, we wanted to get the house rented. We decided to contact the original two students and offer a deal where they did not need a third person. The deal confirming the house was rented and the cats would be taken care of was more important than trying to get a higher rent.
After showing the students the house and going over some basic items in the house we are very happy with our decision. The renters should have to do nothing more and really just need take care of the cats’ food, water, and litter, but they offered to do more.
Even Brooklyn approved of the renters taking care of Little Lady, our female cat. Brooklyn and Little Lady have a very strong bond. Little Lady is probably one of the hardest things for Brooklyn to leave. Brooklyn is Lady’s person. She comes when Brooklyn calls her, she can lie on her, pick her up and Lady sticks right by her. Little Lady runs from everyone else. It is going to be a long 10 months for the two of them to be separated.
The house is rented!
